I know God the Father but… God the Mother?

Most Christians are familiar with God the Father, calling themselves Children of God. A father and children are a part of a family and no family exists without a mother. So why don’t people ask about God the Mother? I found this interesting short video explaining why the Bible actually does show God the Mother.

God the Father

Matthew 6:9 – This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”

Children of God

2 Corinthians 6:18 – And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

God the Mother

Genesis 1:26-27 – Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

The “us” here refers to God the Father and God the Mother, the male and female image of God. Some people believe that the “us” refers to the Trinity. However, in the Bible, The trinity is referred to as male.

John 16:13 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come

The Trinity

Revelation 22:17 – The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

This bride is not the church in the verse above because the related verses below explain who the bride in revelation is.

Revelation 21:9-10 – One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

The bride is also referred to as the Jerusalem from heaven.

Galatians 4:26 – But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

The Jerusalem from heaven is the same as the Jerusalem above. Who is she to us? To believers in God the Father? Our mother. Furthermore, the fact that the bride gives the water of life is an indicator that the bride in Revelation 22:17 cannot be the saints. Read my previous post, “The Bride of Christ Who Gives the Water of Life.”
