2,000 years ago Jesus came as a man and most of the Israelites rejected him because they had their own fixed ideas about how God would come. The Israelites imagined a supernatural God would come and perform miracles like when God divided the Red Sea. In the same way, Christians today expect Jesus coming on the clouds, meaning actually floating on a real cloud in a supernatural a form in His Second Coming. The disciples were curious about His second coming just as Christians are today.
Matthew 24:3 – “As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
Jesus explained about His coming after the sign.
Matthew 24:30 – “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.
Jesus said he was coming on the clouds. Did Jesus meant actual clouds? Was Jesus telling them He was going to float out of the sky and descend down like Aladdin on a magic carpet? Looking at how the Bible describes the first coming of Jesus, we can understand if this is true.
Jesus Coming on the Clouds
Daniel 7:13-14 – ““In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”
Daniel wrote that someone in the future was coming on the clouds, and that this person received authority, glory and sovereign power or a kingdom. If we see who received these three things, we can see who came on the clouds.
Matthew 28:18 – “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Jesus received all authority, meaning 100%. No one else has any authority, so we could assume Jesus is the only one Daniel could have written about. But let’s see if He received glory.
John 17:1, 10 – “After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed… “All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.”
Yes, Jesus received glory. What about a kingdom?
Luke 22:25, 29 – “Jesus said to them… “And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,”
Confer means to give. Jesus received a kingdom also. So who did Daniel see coming on the clouds? He saw Jesus coming on the clouds.
But curiously enough, we do not see any accounts of Jesus floating on an actual cloud out of the sky as a supernatural being. He was born through a mother as a baby like the rest of us. The reason is because when the Bible says someone is coming on the clouds, the meaning is that they are coming in the flesh as a human being.
Coming on the Clouds = Coming as a Man
Jesus Comes as a Man in His 2nd Coming
Again, some Christians believe that Jesus coming on the clouds means on an actual cloud, floating out of the sky as a supernatural being. When they hear reference to Jesus coming in the flesh, they assume that is not the Second Coming. Remember what Jesus said about His Second Coming?
Matthew 24:30 – “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.”
Jesus describes His coming exactly like His first coming, coming on the clouds. So, He is telling us His second coming will be in the flesh as a human being.
The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) believes that Jesus coming on the clouds has already been fulfilled by a man named Ahnsahnghong. If you study the Bible prophecies about the coming of Christ you will understand. One of them is that Christ comes two times in the flesh, once 2,000 years ago and again in the last days.
