Many people claim that Christ Ahnsahnghong was Buddhist or that He was born to Buddhist parents. This is not true. They have no evidence of this and only spread this rumor to claim that Christ Ahnsahnghong cannot be Second Coming Christ.
Their main source of information for this claim is the Wikipedia page about Ahnsahnghong. The page claims that Ahnsahnghong was Buddhist citing incorrect historical information about Korea.
By 1918 Buddhism was the predominant religion in Korea. By 2010, according to a survey cited by The World Factbook, 2013-14 edition, Christians accounted for 31.6% (Protestant 24%, Roman Catholic 7.6%) and Buddhists for 24.2% of the South Korean population.
They say that Buddhism was the dominant religion in Korea at the time of Ahnsahnghong’s birth in 1918, and, to them, this means that He and His parents were Buddhist. They make it seem as if 90% of the population was Buddhist. However, if you understand about the history of Korea, you will see the truth is quite different.
Buddhism Was Not Prominent Religion in Korea
The Chosun Dynasty ruled Korea between 1392 and 1910 and had a policy that was intolerant of Buddhism. In fact, The Chosen Dynasty persecuted Buddhists, drove them out of the cities, and confiscated their land, forcing them to build their temples in the mountains. In the history of Korea, Buddhism had three periods — the period of advancement when it was first introduced to the Korean peninsula, the period of prosperity and the period of decay, which took place during the Chosun dynasty.
Even if Ahnsahnghong had lived in a country that was mostly Buddhist, would that mean automatically Ahnsahnghong was Buddhist? If yes, then you would have to apply the same logic to Jesus Christ. Two thousand years ago, when Jesus was born, His parents had to flee to Egypt because of the persecution from King Herod.
Matthew 2:13-15 – When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Jesus Christ lived in Egypt where people worshipped the sun god. So does this mean Jesus was also a sun god worshipper? No. People who claim that Korea was predominantly Buddhist and because of that Ahnsahnghong was Buddhist, must also say that Jesus was a sun god worshipper because He lived in Egypt. Do you now see why these claims are so ridiculous?
Ahnsahnghong and the Prophecy About Melchizedek
The truth is that just as the places Jesus lived were according to prophecy, the same is true about Second Coming Christ.
Matthew 12:15 – And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
According to the Bible, Second Coming Christ must fulfill the prophecy of Melchizedek. One of the criteria that Melchizedek must fulfill is that He must be born of parents who do not believe in God. We have to have the correct understanding of God’s prophecies and teachings through the Bible. Just as people made up all kinds of excuses about Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago, people do the same to deny Ahnsahnghong is the Christ.
2 Peter 2:3 – “In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories.”
Why do people bring up a point claiming that Ahnsahnghong was Buddhist? Did they have any basis in the Bible? No. Someone just brought it up to serve their own agenda. We must be aware, only believing what is written in the Bible and not the stories people tell us.
